Liaj novaj geamikoj: Martini, Rikardo, Galli kaj Gemo nomas lin ankaŭ per pseŭdonimo "Ojstro". Gemon turmentas duboj, ĉar ŝi vidas multon komunan inter Ojstro kaj Arturo.
Antaŭ pafmortigo Ojstro konfesas al pastro Montanelli, ke li estas Arturo, ke li ne dronis. Li tre amas sian patron, sed ne povas pardoni ties trompon. Li ankaŭ tre amas Gemon, sed ne povas pardoni ŝian vangofrapon. Por li gravas ne la insulto mem, sed tio, ke ŝi ekdubis pri liaj honesto, kuraĝo kaj fideleco al sia kredo, kaj tion li pardonas al neniu.
“Oceanography’s answer to Indiana Jones”, Dirk Pitt responds to a mysterious Mayday signal from a deserted ship that will draw him toward a deadly secret leftover from the Cold War arms race in this #1 New York Times-bestselling series.
Dirk Pitt, the director of the National Underwater and Marine Agency, is on the Black Sea, helping to locate a lost Ottoman shipwreck, when he responds to an urgent Mayday — “Under attack!” — from a nearby freighter. But when he and his colleague Al Giordino arrive, there is nobody there. Just dead bodies and a smell of sulfur in the air. As Pitt and Giordino explore, a blast from the stern scuttles the ship swiftly, almost taking them with it.
The more the two of them search for the secret of the death ship, the deeper they descend into an extraordinary series of discoveries. A desperate attempt in 1917 to preserve the wealth and power of the Romanov Empire. A Cold War bomber lost with a deadly cargo. A brilliant developer of advanced drone technology on an unknown mission. Modern-day nuclear smugglers, determined Ukrainian rebels, a beautiful anti-terrorism agent from Europol — all will combine to present Pitt with the most dangerous challenge of his career.
And not only Pitt. His two children, marine engineer Dirk and oceanographer Summer, are exploring a mysterious shipwreck of their own, when they are catapulted into his orbit. The three of them are used to perilous situations — but this time, they may have found their match.
Filled with breathtaking suspense and remarkable imagination, *Odessa Sea *is further proof that when it comes to adventure writing, nobody beats Clive Cussler.
In this book, the author of Seven Gothic Tales gives a true account of her life on her plantation in Kenya. She tells with classic simplicity of the ways of the country and the natives; of the beauty of the Ngong Hills and coffee trees in blossom; of her guests, from the Prince of Wales to Knudsen, the old charcoal burner, who visited her; of primitive festivals; of big game that were her near neighbors—lions, rhinos, elephants, zebras, buffaloes—and of Lulu, the little gazelle who came to live with her, unbelievably ladylike and beautiful.
Shortlisted for the Douglas Stewart prize for non fiction and the Community Relations Commission Award in NSW and the Age Non-Fiction Book of the Year.
I left too early, before tanks rolled into Moscow in 1991, and before Gorbachev was put under home arrest in a failed coup. I left before Russia and Ukraine became separate countries, before the KGB archives were opened, before the Russian version of Wheel of Fortune, before the word ‘Gulag’ appeared in textbooks. I left before Chechnya, before the mass renaming of cities and streets, before you could go into a shop and actually purchase the books of Brodsky, Pasternak and Nabokov. I left too early, I missed the whole point. I was not there when my generation was cornered by history.
Maria Tumarkin travels with her Australian-born teenage daughter, Billie, back to Russia and Ukraine to have her experience first-hand the seismic shifts of her family’s native country. For Maria the trip back is no simple stroll down memory lane. Splintered and scattered across the world, her generation has ended up inhabiting vastly different realities.
Along with exploring the political and cultural fallout of a century of turmoil, Maria wanted to bring together the worlds of her mother and daughter – the different continents, histories and experiences they encompassed. Before they set off, Maria wistfully imagined her and Billie’s hearts beating in unison as they travelled back to a past they could both understand, forging a nearly superhuman bond along the way. But, in Maria and Billie’s case, the past was not simply another country, but one that no longer existed.
Otherland is the story of a six-week trip traversing three generations, three lifetimes and three profoundly different but profoundly interconnected stories of mothers and daughters.
“For the most part her account is fascinating, even exhilarating, and there is barely a dead word in the book. Tumarkin’s viewpoint is unfailingly insightful with an overlay of pungent Russian humour.”
—Age
“The literary beauty of Otherland is essentially textual: multiple layers of memory and reflection, intertwining historical commentary, cultural and literary criticism, and personal reminiscence. It is at once a roadtrip of anecdotes peppered with yearning and longing as well as a politico-cultural window on a huge part of 20th century history.”

OKEĀNA MĪKLA
V. BEĻKOViČS S. KLEINENBERGS A. JABLOKOVS
